China Smog: Red alerts shut down factories

12-30, 2016 / By MUST Power

The China capital issued a “red alert” for air pollution

In mid-November, Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shandong, Shanxi ect. began to start the heavy pollution weather warning response. The heavy smog swept the most provinces of north China. The local Environmental Protection Agency of most areas issued a “stop production order” and required enterprises to stop production and reduce emission.

The general office of the State Council issued an “Implementation Plan for Pollutant Emission Permit Control”, which means many business will not be engaged in production if there is no emission permits no later than the year of 2020.

Carton “crisis”

Recent days, the Ministry of Environmental Protection sent 13 inspectors once again to inspect the situation of stop production and limit production.

Environmental storm swept China, and packaging and printing factories around the country came to be shut down, such as:
In December 18~19, a printing and packaging plant in Langfang, Hebei province was closed down for no sewage permit.
In early December, a printing plant in Sanhe City, Hebei Province was found no sewage permit, was closed down.
December 7, a carton factory in Taizhou, Zhejiang Province was closed down for sewage problems.
In November, a carton factory in Fuzhou, Fujian Province was fined 190,000 RMB, for billowing off wastewater without approval and can be banned.
In April, a carton factory in Huizhou, Guangdong Province was fined 100,000 RMB due to arbitrary sewage and the responsible person was being held under administrative detention.

Soon the Wechat is filled with the information that a large number of factories are closed down, PC plastic plant shutdown for environmental inspection, PCB circuit board factories shutdown for environmental inspection, chlorination plant shutdown, spraying plant shutdown, die-casting aluminum plant shutdown etc. because of Environmental Protection Inspectorate stationed in Guangdong. So accessories suppliers adjusting the start working time results in plenty of factories delaying the delivery time or closing their factories ahead of time. Therefore, the base paperboard price skyrocketing results in paper shortage, multiple factories have been stopped receiving order since December.

Since October of this year, the friend circle of packaging industry is filled with price rise information, such as “we have received the sixth notice of carton price rise, the carton price has risen by about 80%”. It is understood that the base paperboard price skyrocketing began in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai area and then swept across the country. Now the paper shortage is serious. Moreover, as for manufacturing industry, the carton is a necessity. Therefore, many foundries and manufacturers can do nothing but stop receiving orders or reduce energy consuming and production.

Renewable energy

More than 700 factories have been ordered to stop production since red alert went into effect, we must pay more attention to environment production after this. Renewable energy (such as wind, solar, geothermal, hydroelectric and biomass) is great for the energy portfolio because they are inexhaustible and won’t pollute the environment for human.
